Russell Do it Center / Building Supply

History - Ben Russell    4 28 2020

Russell Lands entered the building supply business in 1984 with the purchase of the then Alexander City Building Supply from Mr. Ben's estate. This business was spawned from Mr. Ben's old wood working industry - the Pine Lumber Company and logging railway of 1923 fame.

The purchase of The Horton Building Supply, Inc., soon enabled Russell Lands to begin a most successful string of building supply centers.

Since that time, the division has grown to include nine locations, employing over 200 people in central Alabama.

In 1989, Russell Building Supply affiliated with Do it Best Corp. - a 4,400-member cooperative of building material and hardware dealers. Russell Lands then began a conversion of its retail and contractor business to a combination of Russell Do it Center stores and Russell Building Supply outlets.

Today, each facility offers a full line of building materials, home improvement items and tool rental centers for both professionals and homeowners.

Currently, there are six Russell Do it Centers located in Alexander City, Clanton, Eclectic, Prattville, Roanoke and Wetumpka and three Russell Building Supply Stores located in Auburn, Dadeville and Harpersville.

Under the most capable leadership of David Sturdivant since 2003, Russell Do it Centers have offered Russell Lands significant growth potential and continue to produce a large portion of the company’s overall income stream.
